NYS Police: DWI Arrest Leads to Recovery of a Stolen Gun Out of Michigan

NYS Police arrested Angel M. Zelaya of Michigan, 35, for DWI and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Nassau County, NY - December 31, 2018 - On December 29, 2018, at approximately 8:10 PM, troopers stopped a black Pontiac G6 for speeding on the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway in the vicinity of exit M3. Investigation at the scene determined the operator, Angel M. Zelaya, age 35, of Ypsilanti, MI, to be Driving While Intoxicated.
 
Further investigation revealed that Mr. Zelaya was in possession of a loaded black Smith & Wesson, M&P .45 Caliber handgun with 10 rounds in the magazine which was reported stolen from Taylor, MI. Mr. Zelaya was also found to be in possession of a box of ammunition which contained an additional 90 rounds of .45 Caliber ammunition.  
 
Mr. Zelaya was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misd.) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (C Felony) and is awaiting arraignment at Nassau County First District Court.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
