Roosevelt Man Busted for Crack Cocaine, Weapons Possession

Roosevelt, NY - December 31st, 2014 - First Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance that occurred in Roosevelt on Tuesday, 12/30/14 at 6:11 P.M.

According to detectives, Cadoziea West, 32, of Whitehouse Ave., Roosevelt, was observed by First Precinct Police officers on Nassau Rd., making a drug transaction.  As the officers were attempting to question the defendant, he evaded them by riding away on his bicycle.  The officers followed the defendant to the rear yard of his residence, where he discarded a bag containing crack cocaine.  The officers advised the defendant that he was under arrest and told to put his hands behind his back, but the defendant refused.  

As the officers struggled to handcuff the defendant, they found a loaded handgun in his pocket. After a prolonged struggle, officers were able to place the defendant under arrest.  Also recovered from the defendant was a tinfoil wrap containing PCP, five small bags of Marijuana and the bag of crack cocaine.  One of the officers sustained a laceration to his hand during the struggle, requiring treatment at a local hospital.

West is being charged with Criminal Possession Weapon 2nd Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession Marijuana.  He will be arraigned on Wednesday, 12/31/14 in First District Court, Hempstead.
