Man Arrested for DWI, Tries to Flee

Lynbrook, NY - December 29, 2013 - The Highway Patrol Bureau reports the arrest of a Far Rockaway man for Resisting Arrest that occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 3:28 a.m. in Lynbrook.
 
According to police, the defendant Thomas E. Shaw, 25 of 249 Beach Street was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law infraction on Sunrise Highway and Peninsula Boulevard. During the investigation Shaw was handcuffed and placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.  The defendant pushed away from the arresting officer causing him to fall and began to flee on foot. A Canine officer at the scene immediately released his dog “Lex” who quickly apprehended Shaw. The defendant continued to resist arrest by kicking at the dog and the officers. The officers regained control of the defendant and placed him under arrest. OC spray was used to assist in affecting the arrest. Shaw was treated by an AMT at the scene. No further injuries were reported.
 
Shaw is charged with Resisting Arrest, Escape 3rd degree, Aggravated Driving while Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated and Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions. He will be arraigned on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at First District Court in Hempstead.
