PSEG Long Island Employees Turn into “Book Fairies” to Support PS 253 in Far Rockaway

Uniondale, NY - December 27, 2018 - PSEG Long Island employee volunteers Patricia Miles of Valley Stream, and Christine Orgera of Howard Beach recently became “book fairies” when they visited PS 253 in Far Rockaway. Miles and Orgera helped to distribute an assortment of books to students, thanks to The Book Fairies program, a not-for-profit organization that builds literacy in high-need areas where students don’t have regular access to books to read.
Based in Freeport, The Book Fairies collects and distributes reading materials for children of all ages throughout the metropolitan area. Providing kids with new and gently-used books fosters literacy and academic success. Reading also provides a respite for children from personal struggles as they nurture a love of reading.
“It was such a pleasure seeing how much the teachers and students appreciated the gift of these wonderful books,” said Miles. “I loved reading as a child, so being able to assist this organization in fostering that joy in a new generation of kids is very rewarding.”
PSEG Long Island is committed to giving back to the people and communities it serves. Employee engagement on Long Island and the Rockaways is a top priority for the company.
