Long Island, NY - December 27, 2017 - Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requesting they allow Long Island taxpayers to prepay their 2018 federal property taxes. Suozzi’s district has over 250,000 residents that utilize the state and local tax deduction (SALT), which is now capped at $10,000 under the recently signed tax plan by President Trump. The IRS has not determined if they will allow residents to prepay their 2018 taxes.

“It’s vital that the IRS give hardworking people on Long Island some peace of mind heading into the new year by allowing them to prepay their 2018 property taxes. It would allow folks to save some money before the effects of this tax plan really begin to devastate local families,” said Congressman Suozzi.
