Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Bay Shore on Christmas

Bay Shore, NY - December 26, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in Bay Shore tonight.

Emmanuel DeJesus Cruz Zavala was crossing in front of 1090 Candlewood Road when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at approximately 5:08 p.m. Cruz Zavala, 33, of Bay Shore, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses describe the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan. The suspect fled southeast on Candlewood Road, towards Commack Road. Police believe there is damage to the passenger side front fender of the car.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
