Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Lawrence) thanked his colleagues in the Legislature for voting unanimously to approve a $6,757 Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax Fund grant for the Elmont Cultural Center.

The funds will be applied toward supporting the Center’s annual Juneteenth celebration, which is held in the Argo neighborhood on Elmont Road and Village Avenue. The event includes attractions for all ages, including performances by local artists; a showcase of high school artists; musical performances; dance and drum performances; celebrity DJs; local vendors; food trucks; businesses and more.

“It has been especially meaningful to witness the growth of Juneteenth grow in Nassau County and across the United States in recent years, and the Elmont Cultural Center has been instrumental in heightening that awareness on the local level,” Legislator Solages said. “I applaud Mimi Pierre Johnson and her team at the Elmont Cultural Center for their continued leadership and thank my colleagues for unanimously supporting this important grant.”

“We are grateful for this grant from Legislator Solages – one that will help the Elmont Cultural Center continue to bring diverse cultures together,” Mimi Pierre Johnson, Founder and President of the Elmont Cultural Center, said. “More than ever, learning about our histories helps us to build relationships that make strong communities. We are looking forward to our next cultural community event.”
