Homeless Man on NICE Bus Arrested on Christmas After Striking at 6-Year-Old Girl

Elmont, NY - December 25, 2016 - The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a homeless man for Attempted Robbery on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at 3:15 p.m. in Elmont.

According to detectives, Michael Oxios, 62, while a passenger in a NICE bus struck a female victim, 6 years of age, who was also a passenger on the bus.  He proceeded to scream profanities before striking the victim again and pulling her hair.  The mother of the victim who was also a passenger on the bus called police who arrived at 161 Hempstead Turnpike and attempted to place the suspect under arrest.  Oxios resisted arrest, struggling with the officers, at one point unsuccessfully attempting to remove one of the officers Electronic Control Devise from his holster.  After a struggle officers were able to place the suspect under arrest.  No injuries were reported.

Oxios is charged with Robbery 3rd degree (Attempt), Resisting Arrest and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  He will be arraigned on Monday, December 26, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
