Man Arrested for Leaving the Scene Following Fatal Crash, Authorities Report

Mastic Beach, NY - December 24, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Mastic Beach man for leaving the scene following a motor vehicle crash that killed two people in Mastic Beach on Saturday, December 22.
 
William Molnar was driving a 2004 Subaru eastbound on Forest Road W. in Mastic Beach when his vehicle was struck by a 2006 Ford Explorer travelling southbound on Huguenot Drive at 10:11 p.m. 
 
Molnar, 50, and his wife Jean Molnar, 41, a passenger in the front seat of the Subaru, both of Mastic Beach, were pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. A 22-year-old male passenger in the front seat of the Explorer was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Explorer fled the scene on foot.
 
Following an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives, Patrick Poillon was arrested overnight in Mastic Beach. Poillon, 24, of Mastic Beach, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. He is being held at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, December 23.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
