NCPD: Hempstead Man Arrested for Gun Possession, Resisting Arrest

Hempstead, NY - December 24th, 2013 - Homicide Squad detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man on December 22, 2013 at 11:19 pm in Hempstead.
According to detectives, Hempstead Police Department plain clothes police officers, while on Martin Luther King Drive, observed an occupied vehicle that was parked left side to the curb. As officers exited their car and approached the vehicle to conduct an investigation, Jarette Anderson, 19, of 57 Oakland Street Apt. C, ran from the scene. 
After a brief foot pursuit and observing Anderson reaching for his waistband, the officer apprehended the subject and observed a gun in the defendant’s hand. After verbal commands to drop the gun, Anderson turned and forced the officer to fire one round with his service weapon striking the defendant in the neck and arm. The officer then placed Anderson into custody and the defendant’s weapon, a loaded Hi Point 9mm handgun was secured. While in custody Anderson was also found to be in possession of a silver Arms Company .22 caliber revolver and a quantity of what appeared to be crack cocaine. 
Anderson was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted for treatment of his injuries. He is listed in stable condition.
The defendant is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Menacing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will arraigned as soon as medically practical.
