Scam Alert: Town of Islip Warns Residents about Seniors Targeted for Money Extortion

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  22. December 2016

Town of Islip, NY - December 21, 2016 - All Town residents should be aware that several of our senior residents have reported attempts to extort money from them.  The pattern is the same.  A senior receives a telephone call that a grandchild is in trouble.  The caller says that the grandchild will be safe if cash or gift cards are secured and delivered to a nearby location in a very short time frame.   The seniors who have been able to reach their family members before delivering the money find that their grandchild is safe at home.

If you receive a suspicious telephone call, please call your local police precinct and report it to them.
