Three Winter Cocktails to Drink This Holiday Season

Written by Lon Cohen  |  19. December 2019

Cheers! It’s that time of the year where we get together with friends, co-workers, and family to celebrate the holidays and ring in the new year. When the weather outside is frightful these three cocktails are warm and delightful.

The Oh, Fudge! at The Linwood Restaurant & Cocktails, 150 E Main St, Bay Shore. The “Oh, Fudge!” was inspired by the timeless Classic, “A Christmas Story.” The scene where little Ralphy is helping his old man change the spare tire, Ralphy yells out: “Oh, fudge! Only He didn't say ‘fudge.’ He said the word. The big one. The queen mother of dirty words. The ‘f, dash, dash, dash’ word.”

This playful cocktail not only warms the spirit but the belly as the hot steamed milk swirls with the creamy chocolate liquor. The Fernet-Branca gives the cocktail that slight touch of mint that really satisfies the pallet. The whimsical marshmallows and the Greek Coffee cup takes you back to a nostalgic time. The “Oh, fudge!” is in itself, an upscale integration of an Adult Chocolate Milk and a Cappuccino. While the Chai-Tea infused whipped cream delivers all the aromas and tastes of the holiday spirit as it gently tickles your nose while you slip away. The “Oh, Fudge!”, has rich sweetness, a delicate creaminess, beautifully balanced spice, all the things one looks for in a festive and inventive cocktail.

Forbidden Fruit at Repeal XVIII, 30 New Street, Huntington. The Forbidden Fruit is made from their house infused fig and vanilla bean Rye, tawny port, chocolate bitters with a smoked snifter from torched cedar wood. Smoke escapes from the glass as they pour the cocktail in while the remainder of the smoke, before dissipating will slightly absorb and add the aromatic aspect to the drink. This drink is sure to delight all the senses. Fig and vanilla will put a little taste of Christmas on your tongue while the tawny port will take the chill off of a cold winter night. The smoky cedar will remind you of cozying up to the yule log.

The Wet Bandit at Blackbird Kitchen & Cocktails, 3026 Merrick Road, Wantagh. This cocktail is all dressed up and pretty in pink. The perfect blend of cranberry gin liqueur, lime juice, ginger syrup, and rosemary with a flavorful, piney taste that reminds you of a sprig off your Christmas tree. Rosemary is also said to symbolize remembrance so this bright drink is perfect to toast a new decade!
