Miller Place, NY - December 19, 2017 - Santa came early this year when new roof shingles were recently delivered to the historic William Miller House, located on North Country Road in Miller Place and one of Long Island’s oldest standing homes dating back to 1720. Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined Santa and members of the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society for the delivery, as they prepare for the 2020 celebration of the historical house’s upcoming 300th Anniversary. Through community events, sponsorships, and online fundraising, the society has reached their goal of raising $18,300 which will provide funds to replace the Miller House roof.

“I thank the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society for their hard work and dedication in preserving this historical gem,” said Legislator Anker. “I am honored to work with the historical society and I look forward to continuing to work to preserve our historical legacy so that generations to come can experience what was created almost 300 years ago.”

"The Society has been struggling for the past 3 years to raise enough money to replace the roof on the William Miller house,” stated Gerard Mannarino, President of the Historical Society. “This year we have been fortunate to be able to raise the $18,300 needed through events and, more importantly, through the donations from community sponsors. Without them this may not have been a reality."

The goal of the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society is to ensure that historical landmarks are remembered and preserved to keep the history of Long Island alive for future generations. The society has plans to continue fundraising in order to pursue renovations to other historic landmarks in the community, such as the Daniel Hawkins House. Now through January 1, the society is hosting a photo sweepstakes fundraiser. You can purchase raffle tickets for $1 each to be entered to win a photo of the historic Daniel Hawkins House.
