MTA Long Island Rail Road Adding 13 Extra Eastbound Trains on Christmas Eve for Those Making Early Holiday Getaway.
New York, NY - December 19th, 2013 - MTA Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, to accommodate the large number of customers leaving work early to begin their Christmas holiday. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:46 PM and 3:48 PM on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson and Far Rockaway branches.
The added trains are as follow:
With large numbers of customers taking advantage of the earlier departures, the LIRR will combine two closely-scheduled evening Babylon trains into one. The 5:59 PM from Penn Station will be cancelled and those customers accommodated by the next scheduled departure, the 6:05 PM train, which will run express to Merrick as usual, then make all local stops to Babylon.

On Christmas Day, December 25, the LIRR will operate on a Holiday Schedule. Pick up a copy of the latest LIRR timetable for the period December 16 through February 22 at any terminal or your local station or find them online at www.mta.info/lirr.
Reminder: Extra Holiday Service on Weekends Through January 4-5.
The LIRR is running four extra westbound trains and six extra eastbound trains on weekends during the holiday season. The remaining weekends are December 21-22 and December 28-29 and January 4-5.
