Uniondale Man Arrested for November Hit & Run Accident in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - December 18th, 2013 - Third Squad detectives report the arrest a Uniondale man for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred in Hempstead on 11/20/13 at 7:55 A.M.

According to detectives, Kenechukwu Okoli, 59, of 733 Campus St., while driving a 1997 Mercedes Benz northbound on Henry St. stopped in front of a Village of Hempstead police crossing guard, who was crossing children at the time, and then drove past the female victim, striking her leg causing her to fall to the ground.  The defendant continued driving and left the scene.

North Shore Ambulance transported the victim, who suffered contusions to her knee and hip, to a local hospital for evaluation.

Third Squad detectives arrested Okoli at his residence on Tuesday, 12/16/13.  He is being charged with Assault 3rd Degree, Leaving Scene Accident and will be arraigned on Tuesday, 01/07/14 in First District Court, Hempstead.
