Teen Arrested in Connection with Multiple Merrick Auto Break-Ins, Cops Say
Merrick, NY - December 15, 2017 - Seventh Squad detectives report the arrest of a Brooklyn man for multiple larcenies to autos that occurred in Merrick on Thursday, 12/14/17 at 4:00 A.M.
According to detectives, Seventh Precinct police officers responded to Central Ave. after a witness notified police of suspicious activity. The witness observed footprints in the snow around parked vehicles, in addition seeing cars parked in driveways with the doors left open.
Police searched the area and located defendant Gregory Jackson, 18, crouched behind a bush on a dead end road. The defendant stood up and fled. Police officers apprehended him on Edwards Pl., where he was placed under arrest. He was found to be in possession of credit cards and drivers licenses, proceeds from the larcenies. Subsequent investigation determined that Jackson was responsible for other larcenies from autos throughout Nassau County on different dates.
Jackson is being charged with thirteen counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Burglary 2nd Degree, eight counts of Petit Larceny and Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, 12/15/17 in First District Court, Hempstead.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
