Suffolk County, NY - December 14, 2016 - A former Suffolk man convicted of attempted kidnapping and five weapons possession charges was sentenced today to 30 years in prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Glen Terry, 48, formerly of Holtsville, planned to kidnap his attorney, Frank Tinari, who represented him in a personal injury civil lawsuit. The suit ended with a $450,000 settlement but the defendant felt he deserved more in the suit against an oil company.  Terry filed the lawsuit after he was burned by scalding water.

In March of 2015 Terry drove north to Long Island from Florida where he had moved in 2014, explaining to detectives that in Florida he could legally buy weapons that would enable him to kidnap Tinari.

At the time of his arrest last year, Terry possessed a semi-automatic pistol, a Taser, a stun gun, a “Rambo” knife, a container of pepper spray and handcuffs. After a traffic stop, police said Terry told them he was on his way to abduct his former lawyer and detain him in his father’s basement.

On October 27, after ten hours of deliberations, the jury convicted Terry of attempted kidnapping in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and three additional weapons possession charges.
