Couple Arrested After Using Stolen Credit Card to Pay for Sky Diving Trip, SCPD Say

SCPD have arrested Abass Ibrahim, 21, and Maryam Burkes, 19, both of Brooklyn, who used a stolen credit card in June 2017.

Shirley, NY - December 13, 2017 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a man and woman who used a stolen credit card to purchase sky diving trips in June 2017.
 
On June 20, a male and a female used a stolen credit card belonging to a male victim from the State of Washington to purchase sky diving trips at Skydive Long Island, located at 135 Dawn Drive, Shirley. The couple also used the card to purchase a video of their jump.
 
Identity Theft detectives initiated an investigation and released video and photos of the couple via a Crime Stoppers Crime Alert. After extensive coverage on traditional media and social media, the pair, Abass Ibrahim and Maryam Burkes, turned themselves in at the Seventh Precinct, located on 1491 William Floyd Parkway on Tuesday, December 12, at approximately 5 p.m.
 
Identity Theft detectives charged Ibrahim, 21, of Brooklyn, with one count of Identity Theft 1st Degree and Forgery 2nd Degree. He will be held at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 13. Burkes, 19, of Brooklyn, was charged with one count of Identity Theft 1st Degree. She will be held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 13.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
