A student entered Arapahoe High School in Denver, Colo. on Friday afternoon and fired a gun, injuring at least three people before taking his own life.

The armed student entered the school with the intention of confronting a teacher, Sheriff Grayson Robinson said in a report from CNN. Neither the gunman nor the intended victim has been identified.

At least one person was taken to Littleton Adventist Hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was a minor, and has not been identified by officials. Two other students were taken to Swedish Medical Center. They have not been identified either, however they are reportedly in good condition.

The shooting comes just one day before the one year anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newton, Connecticut. The shooting also occurred just 10 miles from Littleton, where a shooting at Columbine High School in 1999 claimed the lives of 13 victims; 12 students and one teacher.

Officials said that the student walked into the school with a shotgun. He made no attempt to hide the weapon and demanded the whereabouts of the teacher.

A school janitor called 911 when he saw a student running around in tactical gear and heard gunshots. He then alerted the teacher and escorted the intended target out of the school.

Students were locked inside their classrooms as police searched for the suspect. Many others fled the school and stood in lines by the track field as police patted them down.

The shooter’s body was found in a classroom, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials stated that they believe the suspect acted alone.

Arapahoe High School has a student population of 2,229, with 70 classrooms.

Students were taken to a nearby church after the shooting, where they were reunited with their families.
