Written by Kali Chan  |  13. December 2013

New York, NY - December 13th, 2013 - Internationally-renowned psychoanalyst Otto F. Kernberg, Ph.D. will give a lecture entitled “The Spectrum of Psychodynamic Psychotherapies Today” on January 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the Lindemann Lecture on Human Development, an annual lecture series which allows the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University to host prominent thinkers and writers in the field of psychology.

Dr. Kernberg has made significant contributions to the field of psychoanalysis, especially in the areas of borderline personality organization and narcissistic pathology. He was also influential in integrating postwar ego psychology, which led to the development of modern object relations, which is perhaps the most widely accepted modern version of psychoanalytic theory. Dr. Kernberg’s most influential contribution, however, is likely his developmental model, which outlines tasks individuals must complete in order to establish healthy relationships.

Dr. Kernberg has published 26 books and more than 250 papers. He has received many awards for his work, including two Doctor Honoris causas from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina and Andrés Bellos University of Chile.

Dr. Kernberg currently serves as the director of the Personality Disorders Institute at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester Division and training and supervising analyst at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. He is also a professor of psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

The lecture will be held in the Scholastic Building at 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012. The event is free, but reservations are required. Reservations can be made online here.
