Deer Park, NY - December 11th, 2013 -  Suffolk County Police today cited a Deer Park woman for severely neglecting a pair of pit bulls that she left chained to a tree in her yard.

Suffolk County First Precinct Police Officer James Johnson responded to 61 Lincoln Ave. on December 8 after a 911 caller reported two pit bulls that were being neglected. When Officer Johnson arrived, he found the two dogs, Nina and Papa, severely emaciated and chained to a tree in the rear yard of the home. John Collins of the Suffolk County SPCA also responded to the location to aid in the investigation.

Officer Johnson transported the dogs to the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip. Following an examination by veterinarians, it was determined the dogs had been severely neglected and the owner of the dogs, Sharon Martinez, 55, who lives at the Lincoln Avenue home, was issued a Field Appearance Ticket this morning for severe animal neglect under the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law. She will appear in court on a later date.

The dogs are currently at the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter.
