Man Killed in Car Crash on Route 109 in Farmingdale

East Farmingdale, NY - December 10th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man in East Farmingdale this morning.

Joshua Hoffman was driving a 1999 Saturn westbound on Route 109 at approximately 5 a.m. when his vehicle struck an 18-wheeler Mack Truck traveling eastbound on Route 109 and overturned. The driver of the truck, William Gustafson, was attempting to make a left onto Bi-County Boulevard.

Hoffman, 34, of West Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Gustafson, 43, of Lititz, Pennsylvania, was not injured.

The Saturn was impounded for a safety check. Motor Carrier Safety Section officers responded for a safety check of the truck.

The investigation is continuing.
