Man Arrested for DWAI by Drugs with Child in Vehicle

Suffolk County Police arrested a Farmingville man last night for driving while his ability was impaired by drugs with a two-year-old child in the vehicle.

Farmingville, NY - December 10th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Farmingville man last night for driving while his ability was impaired by drugs with a two-year-old child in the vehicle.

Richard O’Donnell, 32, was driving a 2005 Suzuki westbound on Express Drive North near the intersection of Wicks Road at 7:45 p.m. when Police Officer Louis DiRosso of the Highway Enforcement Section stopped him for failing to maintain his lane of travel. O’Donnell had a two-year-old male child in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Upon interview, it was determined that O’Donnell was under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs with a Child 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was also issued four citations for vehicle and traffic law violations.

O’Donnell, of Rexmere Avenue, Farmingville, is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
