Officials: Two Arrests Made in Connection with Uniondale-Based Rental Scams

Hempstead, NY - December 7, 2017 - The First Squad reports the arrest of a Uniondale woman for a Grand Larceny on Monday, December 04, 2017 in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, the defendant Keydi N. Garcia, 33, of Uniondale, did scam seven different victims from June 2017 to October 2017 by advertising at various businesses in Uniondale and Hempstead communities for a rental apartment at her residence. The victims met with the defendant providing a sum of money to rent the apartment, as a form of security deposit or first month’s rent.  
 
When it came time to move in, the victims were unable to contact or locate Keydi N. Garcia. On September 26, 2017, defendant Maurico Flores, 32, of Uniondale, was placed under arrest at a residence on Locust Avenue, Uniondale, and charged with Grand Larceny  4th Degree, False Personation and Scheme To Defraud 1st Degree. It was determined that Maurico Flores was an accomplice with the above defendant. 
 
Defendant Garcia is charged with Scheme to Defraud 1st Degree, five counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree and six counts of Petit Larceny. She was arraigned on December 05, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
