Wrong-Way Driver Arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs After Crashing into Three Vehicles

Shirley, NY - December 6, 2016 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Shirley man for driving under the influence of drugs after he drove the wrong way and crashed into three vehicles in Shirley last night.

Kevin Demartino was driving a 2009 Toyota northbound in the southbound lanes of William Floyd Parkway when he struck a 2012 Volkswagen, a 2004 Ford and a 2013 Ford, all of which were traveling southbound, 250 feet south of Flintlock Drive, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the 2013 Ford, Margaret Wimett, 51 of Mastic Beach, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen, Joyce Voellm, 63, of East Moriches, and the driver of the 2004 Ford, Norberto Garcia, 36, of Shirley, were also transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where they were treated and released.

Demartino, 42, of Shirley, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs 1st Degree. Demartino was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and will be arraigned on a later date.  

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
