Selden, NY - December 5, 2016 - The Suffolk County Community College Parliamentary debate team of Faiz Shakir and Christopher Chuisa defeated two different pairings from Penn State University at a regional speech competition's preliminary rounds held at Hofstra University on Sunday, December 4th.

Shakir, of Deer Park, and Chuisa, of West Islip, were one win away from advancing to the award rounds before they were narrowly beaten by a team from Hofstra University in the final round of competition.

More than 20 colleges from 11 states participated in the annual event.
