Over 1,000 Brentwood Students & Families to Honor Former Principal with 5k Run & Memorial Breakfast

Brentwood, NY - December 6th, 2014 - Over 1,000 students, faculty and community members of the Brentwood area will come together to run 3.1 miles in honor of late, high school administrator, Gary Mintz, on Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at Brentwood High School, located at 2  6th Avenue in Brentwood. The run begins 8:45am, and the awards ceremony will take place at 11:15am.
 
Gary Mintz was the Principal of Brentwood High School from 1989 until his sudden death in 1995. Together with Mr. O'Brien, his successor, Mintz developed the concept of a community 5k to take place on the morning of the scholarship pancake breakfast annually held in December. 
 
After Gary’s sudden passing, the race was renamed in his honor. This year marks the 20th anniversary with over 1,000 participants and will raise approximately $18,000 .
 
This endeavor is the largest fundraising scholarship event for graduating seniors at Brentwood. Supporting this event assists students in offsetting their college expenses, and provides the incentive many students need to make college a reality. 
 
WHEN: The awards 11:15am. (The run begins 8:45am sharp)
WHERE: Brentwood High School located at 2  6th Avenue in Brentwood.
