Smithtown, NY - December 5, 2014 - St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center ushered in the holidays in a spirit of jubilee at its first outdoor community tree lighting, held on Thursday, December 5, 2014.  In collaboration with Smithtown High School West DECA Club and St. Catherine of Siena—more than 200 braved the cold and gathered for an evening of Christmas festivities. DECA is an association of marketing students from all around the world. It helps prepare future leaders in marketing, management, finance, and hospitality in college or high school. It is more than just a business club it helps teach and allow students to develop their own style and expand their knowledge in business.

It was the marketing expertise of the DECA students that brought the hospital’s first outdoor tree lighting to life—featuring performances by The Great Hollow Middle School Select Chorus, The Smithtown High School West Jazz Choir, The Accompsett Middle School Whisperettes Kickline and The Smithtown Dynamics Twirlers. The students brought their energy, cheer and coordinated the arrival of jolly old Santa Claus, in sponsorship with Smithtown Fire Department. Little Miss Nesconset click the switch for the tree—which brought joy to the many attendees. The students also collected non-perishable donations which they will donate to families in need within the community.

The event would not have been possible without the DECA students, and the support of internal departments, including, Engineering, Security, Environmental Services, the Nursing and Rehabilitation Care Center Dietary Department, and the many sponsors who took individual $25 sponsorships—which can all be viewed by the tree throughout the month of December. All proceeds from the event will directly support patient care services at the Medical Center.
