Suffolk County Police Officer Helps Deliver Baby

Brentwood, NY - December 4th, 2014 - A Suffolk County police Third Precinct officer helped deliver a baby in Brentwood today.

Police Officer Eiffel Ramirez was dispatched to 275 Jefferson Avenue at 3:05 p.m. after a 911 call was received regarding a woman in active labor. Upon arrival, Officer Ramirez discovered that Jasmine Perrera was eight months pregnant and about to give birth. Perrera, who was home alone, was also concerned for the welfare of with her six-year-old son who was due to return home shortly from school.

Officer Ramirez was able to calm and assist Perrera and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy shortly after the officer's arrival. Officer Ramirez was assisted by a first responder from the Islip Exchange Rescue.

After delivering the baby, Officer Ramirez located the six-year-old boy who was returning from school and arranged for him to be temporarily cared for by a neighbor.
