Update - December 17th, 2013 - Third Squad detectives report the arrest of Douglas Santamaria, 17, of 209 Hopper Street Apt. 2C, New Cassel, in connection with the below incident.

Santamaria was apprehended as he was entering his apartment building on 12/16/2013 without incident. He is charged with Assault 1st Degree, Gang Assault 1st Degree and Assault 2nd Degree. Santamaria will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 12/17/2013.

New Cassel, NY - December 4th, 2013 - Third Squad detectives report the details of two arrests for assaults that occurred in New Cassel on Sunday, 12/01/13 at 3:10 A.M.

According to detectives, Jose Hernandez, 17, of 621 Roman Ave., Westbury, Jose Clavel, 19, of 177 Rushmore St., New Cassel and another not yet apprehended, armed with a baseball bat, machete and knife, waited for two male victims, 21 and 22, in the yard of a residence on Roman Ave. after having a previous verbal altercation.  The defendants’ knocked one victim to the ground with the baseball bat and the other victim was attacked with the machete.  

Victim #1 suffered contusions and abrasions and refused medical treatment at the scene.  Nassau County Police Ambulance transported Victim #2, who sustained severe lacerations to the hand and forearm and a stab wound to the back, to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Bureau of Special Operations police officers arrested Hernandez on Wednesday 12/04/13 in Levittown and Clavel on Tuesday, 12/03/13 in Westbury.  Both defendants are being charged with Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Gang Assault 1st Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, 12/04/13 in First District Court, Hempstead.
