The Bellport Historical Society shared this illustration with us that they used for their newsletter recently. It’s an illustration by Walter Granville Smith, a well-known turn of the Century artist and magazine illustrator who summered in Bellport.

While the exact location of this particular illustration can’t be confirmed, a representative of the organization said that it be a landscape created from his imagination as it was an assignment for a magazine but he definitely loved Bellport and painted many water scenes over the years.

Either way the merriment of the horse and carriage riders along with the little kids waving at the viewer as they are being towed along in their sled brings to mind some joyful feelings of wintertime and the holidays.
