Police: Valley Stream Man Arrested After Assaulting Postal Employees Over Declined Debt Cards
Valley Stream, NY - December 3, 2018 - The Fifth Squad reports the Arrest of a Valley Stream man for Burglary that occurred on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:50 a.m. in Valley Stream.
According to detectives, defendant Matthew Delvalle, 24, entered the post office located at 111 S. Franklin Ave. He attempted to purchase two money orders with a debit card that was declined. He then attempted to purchase the same money orders with a different debit card, which contained a different name. This card was also declined.
When the Postmaster was made aware of the situation, he took the defendant’s driver’s license and both debit cards into a room to investigate. At this time, Matthew Delvalle jumped over the counter and kicked and punched the employee, a 65 year-old male, causing him pain in his knee and elbow.
The defendant then attacked a second employee, a 39 year-old male, punching and biting him. This caused the victim to suffer puncture wounds, contusions and pain.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The police were called to the scene and the defendant was arrested without incident.
Matthew Delvalle is charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, three (3) counts of Assault 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information. He will be arraigned on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
