Baldwin Man Arrested Attempting to Break Into Westbury House

Update - December 1st, 2014 - Defendant Levaughn Tingle is charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree and a Parole Violation.  The investigation is still ongoing. 
 
Westbury, NY - November 29th, 2014 - The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Baldwin man which occurred on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 4:19 A.M. in Westbury.
 
According to Detectives, Third Precinct officers responded to a call for suspicious car with occupant in front of Clinton Street. As police approached the vehicle on foot, the defendant Levaughn Tingle, 25, of Joy Boulevard attempted to quickly flee the scene striking a parked vehicle and then intentionally drove toward the officers causing them to retreat up the driveway of a Clinton Street residence. As the officers were repositioning to avoid being crushed between the house and vehicle, Tingle violently maneuvered the vehicle while in the driveway attempting to run down the officers a second time.  
 
An officer then fired several rounds at the defendant who was struck causing non-life threatening injuries.  The defendant was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  Three officers were taken to a local hospital for trauma. The vehicle that the defendant was operating was reported stolen.
 
The defendant has previous convictions for Attempted Burglary 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Petit Larceny and is on parole for Burglary 2nd degree.  Tingle has an active arrest parole warrant for absconding. 
 
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
