NYS Police Brentwood Saves Jumper from Overpass at Southern State Parkway

Brentwood, NY - November 25, 2016 - At approximately 10:35 a.m., SP Brentwood patrols responded to a possible jumper at exit 41N Bay Shore Road overpass of the Southern State Parkway.

Trooper Hua Chan initially responded and found a despondent female outside the safety fence on the overpass, over the Southern State Parkway. Trooper Chan made contact with the female attempting to calm the situation. Senior Investigator Simon Ocampo (Crisis Negotiator) and Investigator Charles Knapp overheard the transmission at SP Brentwood and responded.  Senior Investigator Ocampo made contact with the despondent female subject and with the logistical support of Suffolk PD ESU who cut away the protective fence, successfully negotiated the female’s surrender to patrols.

The subject was taken into custody by uniform Troopers and transported to Southside Hospital for a medical and physiological evaluation.
