National Weather Service Calling Thankingiving Snow "Signifigant Winter Storm"

Update - Tuesday, November 25th at 5:25 p.m. - A Winter Advisory is now in effect for Northern Nassau County from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. on Thursday. Northern Nassau County will experince a mixture of both snow and rain on Wednesday morning which will turn primarily to snow by early afternoon Wednesday. Snow accumulations are predicted to be between 3 to 5 inches.

At this time no other advisories have been issued for Southern Nassau or Suffolk County.

As of Tuesday, November 25th, the outlook for bad weather leading up to Thanksgiving has grown to a winter storm watch. According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for Wednesday, November 26th into Wednesday night is heavy, wet snowfall, which will impact those who have plans to travel on Wednesday for the upcoming holiday.

The winter storm watch will be in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning.

Wednesday morning will begin with rainfall followed by a mix of snow and rain. By late morning and early afternoon the precipitation will change to all snow, except for locations on the coast which won’t see the change to just snow until the afternoon. For Eastern Long Island the precipitation will remain a mix of rain and snow all the way into Wednesday night.

It is forecasted that New York City and Northern Nassau County will receive heavy snow and accumulations of 4 – 8 inches.
