Shirley, NY, November 25, 2013 – To help residents of the William Floyd community during the holiday season, members of the William Floyd boys varsity lacrosse team recently held a food donation drive and fundraiser to help support the Colonial Youth and Mastics and Shirley Community food pantries. The team gathered in front of the Stop & Shop in Shirley and handed out a flier detailing the items that are needed to help stock the pantry. Thanks to the generosity of the community, they collected a small truckload full of food and nearly $200 in donations. Members of the Moriches Elementary School Student Council and their advisor Kellie Megna also assisted the team in the collection.
“Sharing this experience with the younger students is almost as important as the service that we are providing to the community,” said Kevin Fox, a William Floyd High School senior and captain of the lacrosse team.
Coach Desmond Megna added, “My team is very family oriented and they take pride in their school and community. They enjoy being positive role models for the younger students, some of whom may one day be William Floyd student athletes.”
