Bellmore, NY - November 24, 2014 - Long Island Crisis Center, the 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline, is currently recruiting volunteers to participate in its upcoming Counselor Assistant Training Program.
Recognizing the valuable life skills and life experiences that today’s baby boomers (who are nearing retirement or are already retired) have acquired, the Crisis Center is seeking those who now have the time to volunteer and become lifesaving partners with them. No counseling experience is necessary and the hours are flexible (around-the-clock) to accommodate the individual needs of volunteers.
The free, comprehensive orientation training program takes place over 3 three-hour sessions at the Crisis Center’s office in Bellmore. December’s training will be held on 3 successive Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on December 4th, 11th and 18th. January’s training will be held on 3 successive Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. on January 7th, 14th and 21st. Completion of the Counselor Assistant training is a prerequisite for the Crisis Center’s Counselor Training, which begins in March.
