Amityville, NY - November 23, 2014 - Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory recently welcomed the members of his 2014-2015 Youth Leadership Caucus.

The Youth Leadership Caucus, formed by Presiding Officer Gregory in 2010, is made up of young people throughout the community who volunteer their time to meet monthly and participate in local community service projects. With a rolling membership of approximately 25 students, the goal of the Youth Caucus is to offer students in grades 8-12 a platform to be heard on issues that affect them and to meet and interact with community leaders. This year, speakers will include Babylon Town Councilwoman Jacqueline A. Gordon and Officer Barney of the Suffolk County Police Department.

“I am pleased to have such a bright group of young people participating in the program this year,” said Presiding Officer Gregory. “The Youth Leadership Caucus is intended to encourage our students to get civically engaged in the community. I am hopeful that they will have a positive, life altering experience during their time in Youth Caucus.”

Presiding Officer Gregory will be accepting applications for the 2015-2016 Youth Leadership Caucus starting in January. Registration is open to all students, 8-12th grade, who reside in the 15th Legislative District. For more information, call (631)854-1111.
