Whether you’re an ice pro or an ankle bender, you can appreciate the joy of skating outdoors in the wintertime. Get outside and strap on those blades at these outdoor rinks and ponds across Long Island. Since these are outdoor rinks, availability may depend on the weather. Call ahead to find out if the rink is open.

 

Nassau

 

Christopher Morley Park - Opened Saturday after Thanksgiving through mid-March (weather permitting). Christopher Morley's outdoor ice skating rink has been a community fixture since 1966. The facility, which is 200-feet by 80-feet, is used by recreational skaters and hockey teams. The ice rink opens the Ice charter rentals for parties and hockey teams are also available. The ice skating rink is open six days a week in winter. Location: 500 Searingtown Road, North Roslyn, (516) 571-8113.

 

Bayville Winter Wonderland Skating - In November, Bayville Adventure Park turns into Bayville Winter Wonderland. A spectacular display of holiday lights and other festive family attractions celebrating the holiday season, including outdoor skating. Skate with holiday holiday characters, sip hot chocolate and roast marshmallows at the outdoor burning hearth. Location: 8 Bayville Avenue, Bayville, (516) 628-TOYS.

The Rinx at Wyandanch Plaza - Open from December 7th, 2019 - March 1st, 2020. New ice rink in the Wyandanch Village. Public skating, lessons, and party opportunities available. Location: 40 Station Drive, Wyandanch, (631) 643-2050.

 

De Matteis Pavilion Ice Rink - Location: 102 EAB Plaza, Uniondale, (516) 683-0303.

 

Lofts Pond - One of several outdoor ponds which offer ice skaters winter wonderland scenes. Before converging upon any of the outdoor ponds, call and find if the ice is sufficiently frozen, the hours of operation, and if there are any residency requirements. Ice skating will be permitted only when it is determined that the ice is at least four inches thick, and is smooth and strong enough to support the weight of skaters. Suffolk

 

Tanger Ice Rink Deer Park - Opens in late November. Open skate and group rentals available. Location: Next to Tanger Outlets, 152 The Arches Circle, Deer Park, (631) 940-9750.

 

The Rinx at Harborfront Park - Opening Day: Friday, November 29th. The Rinx at Harborfront Park offers the unique experience of skating on Port Jefferson harbor. Location: 101-A East Broadway, Port Jefferson, (631) 403-4357.

Buckskill Ice Rink - The Buckskill Ice Rink is the only refrigerated, NHL regulation-sized, ice rink in the Hamptons. Public ice skating and skate rentals, U.S.F.S.A. figure skating programmes, junior and adult ice hockey programs, private skating lessons and group skating lessons, birthday parties, private parties, teen nights and more. The ice rink is also available for private charter for hockey or parties. Cozy club house with an open fire where you can warm up and watch the action on the ice with a cup of hot soup or European hot chocolate from a full service snack bar.
