Police: Hicksville Daycare Owner Accused of Allowing Toddlers to Wander in Traffic

Hicksville, NY - November 20, 2018 - The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Hicksville woman for Endangering the Welfare of a Child that occurred in Hicksville on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:52 am.
 
According to police, a 44 year old male witness was driving south on Jerusalem Avenue in the vicinity of 8th Street at which time he observed a 3 year old female child standing alone in the right lane. The witness stopped his vehicle and exited to assist the child out of the roadway. At  that time the witness then observed a second child, a 2 year old male also standing alone on the curbside grass. The witness immediately called the police. 
 
Second Precinct police responded and concluded after an investigation that the children left through an unlocked rear gate of Chella’s Childcare located at 290 Jerusalem Avenue. Police also determined that the defendant Graciela Castro, 24, was the owner and in charge at the time. Defendant Castro was placed into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.
 
Defendant Castro is charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She was released on an Appearance ticket and will respond to the First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, December 17, 2018.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
