Man Arrested for DWI in East Meadow After Driving Wrong Way, Down Sidewalk

East Meadow, NY - November 17th, 2014 - The Nassau County Highway Patrol Bureau reports the arrest of a Highland Mills man for Driving While Intoxicated which occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 4:20 A.M. in East Meadow.

According to Police, the defendant Christian Delacruz, 37, of Ridge Road was observed by a Third Precinct officer assigned to the department’s DWI Alcohol Related Incident Team operating his 1998 BMW southbound on the sidewalk of northbound Carmen Avenue.  Then continued onto the roadway in the wrong direction across four lanes causing the officer to swerve and avoid a head-on collision.  The officer conducted a vehicle and traffic stop at which time it was determined that Delacruz was intoxicated and placed him under arrest.

Delacruz is charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, Reckless Driving, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated (BAC + .08), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd degree and multiple traffic infractions.  The defendant was arraigned on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
