Uniondale, NY - November 16, 2016 - Uniondale School District’s Smith Street Elementary School students recently welcomed local Marines to campus. Gunnery Sergeant Tokiwa, Staff Sergeant Valdez, Staff Sergeant Garcia, Sergeant Azucena and Corporal Solberg visited with first grade students and read age-appropriate books aloud. Gunnery Sergeant Tokiwa read Dr. Seuss’s beloved book “Green Eggs and Ham” aloud, using different voices for each character to inspire students to develop a love of reading.

This event was part of the Uniondale School District’s commitment to developing early childhood literacy and surrounding students with positive role models.
