Yeti is a immature female great white shark OCEARCH and its collaborative team of multi-institutional scientists satellite-tagged off Nantucket, MA in October. Named by OCEARCH in honor of its sponsor YETI Coolers, YETI's tracks are now live on the free online Global Shark Tracker and Apple and Android Apps, as well as on Twitter (@YETItheshark).

In October Chris Fischer, OCEARCH Founding Chairman and Expedition Leader said, "With multiple pings in less than 24 hours after she was tagged, we expect YETI to provide substantial tracking data to scientists and everyone to follow." "We can't wait to see where she goes."

As Yeti's fin breaks the surface, the satellite tag will transmit her location. In addition to the fascinating real-time tracking, YETI will provide a broader understanding of the ecology, physiology, and behavior of the north Atlantic Great White.

"Yeti is the fifth shark tagged on Expedition Nantucket," said Dr. Robert Hueter, Director of the Center for Shark Research at Mote Marine Laboratory. "These sharks will allow us to track their movements in real-time via long-term satellite and acoustic tracking for more than five years, revealing multi-year cycles in their migrations. This is new information not possible with other types of tagging. And the health assessments done onboard OCEARCH through blood, parasite, genetic and mucus sampling will show us the healing properties of these creatures and the threats they face. Together all this new data will teach us how to protect the white sharks of the Atlantic Ocean."

"The protection and preservation of the ocean and its marine wildlife is not just the responsibility of non-profits like OCEARCH, but those who boat, swim, fish and enjoy the waters regularly," said Evan Russell, Fishing Marketing Manager at Yeti. "We are proud take part in this important research and look forward to following Yeti as she moves through the Northern Atlantic."

About OCEARCH
OCEARCH is a non-profit organization with a global reach for unprecedented ocean-based research on keystone species such as Great White and Tiger Sharks, supporting leading researchers and institutions seeking to attain groundbreaking data on the movement, biology and health of apex predators to protect their future while enhancing public safety. The researchers OCEARCH supports work aboard the M/V OCEARCH, a 126' Cat powered vessel equipped with a 75,000 lb. hydraulic research platform, where the ship serves as both mothership and at-sea laboratory. Scientists have approximately 15 minutes of access to live, mature sharks to conduct up to 12 studies. The sharks are measured, tissue and blood samples are collected, and satellite and acoustic transmitters are attached.
