SPCA: Ridge Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After Starving, Abandoning Her Two Dogs

Ridge, NY - November 8, 2018 - Detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA charged a Ridge woman with animal cruelty on Wednesday, November 8th, 2018.
 
Tyra Shepard, 33, was charged with 2 counts of animal cruelty. Detectives responded to a complaint and found Cardi, a 7 month old female Pit Bull and Semi, a male Pit Bull to be emaciated, with no food, water or shelter and living in deplorable conditions behind an apartment that Shepard had recently moved out of. The dogs were removed by the SPCA and transported to a veterinary hospital by Brookhaven animal control officers.
 
Shepard is scheduled to appear in 1st District Court on 1/17/2019.
 
Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
