Queens, NY - November 9th, 2013 - GingerBread Lane – a 1.5 ton, 300-square-foot village made entirely of edible gingerbread, royal icing, and candy – makes its New York City debut at the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) in Queens on November 17. The creation and product of Chef Jon Lovitch, GingerBread Lane is a contender for the Guinness World Record for the largest gingerbread exhibit; results will be announced during the opening. GingerBread Lane took one full year to develop and complete, requiring approximately 1,500 hours of labor.

This year, GingerBread Lane celebrates its 20th season with its 29th village. The village includes an estimated 1,900 lbs. of icing, 400 lbs. of candy, and 500 lbs. of gingerbread dough.  It comprises 152 gingerbread houses, 65 trees, 4 gingerbread cable cars, 5 gingerbread train cars, an underground candy subway station, candy trees, and sugar signage. While the layout and composition change yearly, GingerBread Lane always includes Eggnog Bay, Gum Drop Row, Peppermint Central Park, Candy Cane Place, and Toffee Boulevard. New this year are Ribbon Candy Ridge and a “behind-the-scenes” window, giving a peek into the makings of GingerBread Lane with ovens, models, and ingredients, made entirely from royal icing. Five two-foot-high nutcrackers, also made of royal icing, stand guard over the back of the exhibit.

GingerBread Lane kicks off NYSCI’s season of holiday programs. In addition to the gingerbread village, holiday offerings include gingerbread house workshops led by GingerBread Lane creator Jon Lovitch on December 7 and 28, and the highly anticipated GingerBread Lane house giveaway on January 12, where fans can take home up to two gingerbread houses.

GingerBread Lane is a project, conceived and funded entirely by Chef Jon Lovitch. All structures are given away free at the close of the exhibition. Since December 2000, GingerBread Lane has also hosted annual workshops for families and after-school programs for children.
