Central Islip Man Arrested for DWI with 12 Year-Old Daughter in Vehicle, Cops Say

Old Westbury, NY - November 6, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Central Islip man for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 3:15 a.m. in Old Westbury.
 
According to police, officers from Old Westbury Police Department observed Jose Saravia, 41, operating a white 2006 Cadillac northbound on Guinea Woods Road. The officers observed multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations and initiated a car stop. During the investigation it was discovered that the defendant had glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. The defendant’s 12 year old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of incident. The unharmed child was removed from the scene by her mother.
 
The defendant Jose Saravia is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Under 15-Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two (2) counts of Driving While Intoxicated and multiple VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at First District Court in Hempstead.  
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
