Eastport Man Arrested for November 2nd's Fatal Hit & Run Accident

Update: November 25th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested an Eastport man for leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Montauk Highway in Eastport on November 2.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives charged Peter Torrillo, 48, of 13 East Pond Lane, Eastport, with Leaving the Scene of Fatal Incident and Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Incident. He will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.  

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Eastport, NY - November 3rd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a female disabled motorist and injured her male companion in Eastport last night.
 
Erika Strebel and Edward Barton were standing near Strebel’s disabled 1988 Jeep on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Montauk Highway at approximately 9:05 p.m. when they were struck by an unknown vehicle that was travelling east on Montauk Highway. The vehicle, which sustained front end damage, fled eastbound on Montauk Highway.
 
Strebel, 27, of Eastport, was transported by East Moriches Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where she was pronounced dead. Barton, 26, of East Moriches, was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is being treated for head and knee injuries.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
