Police Chase Down Van Refusing to Adhere to Traffic Stop Request and Catch Two Men Fleeing on Foot, One Suspect Still at Large

Elmont, NY - November 2, 2016 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of two men for Grand Larceny that occurred on Tuesday, November 01, 2016 at 10:32 pm in Elmont.

According to Crime Against Property Squad detectives, Fifth Precinct plainclothes officers while on routine patrol observed a tan 1995 Ford Econoline van travelling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike with a Georgia plate not belonging to the vehicle. The officers attempted a Vehicle Traffic Stop of the automobile which was occupied by three male subjects.  The van accelerated speed and refused to stop. 

Officers followed the vehicle through the streets of Elmont onto the Cross Island Parkway.  The subjects fled on foot after crashing the van into a guardrail on the Grand Central Parkway. 

Police Officers from the Fifth and Third Precincts, Crime Against Property Squad detectives along with the Nassau County Police Department Aviation Bureau and the New York City Police Department Aviation Bureau joined in the search of the above subjects.  Officers apprehended defendant Taalib Quinshawn Webb-Burris, 20, of Laurelton at 11:00 pm in front of 242 31a Oak Park Drive, Douglaston.  Defendant Norel Thomas (the driver), 18, of Laurelton was apprehended in front of 239-12 Douglaston Parkway, Little Neck at 11:05 pm after attempting to steal another vehicle. The third subject has not been arrested. 

Both defendants are being charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Unlawful Fleeing, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  Defendant Thomas has three additional charges of Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Attempted Possession of Stolen Property and Reckless Driving.  They will be arraigned on Wednesday, November 02, 2016 at First District Court, Hempstead.
