Island Park, NY - October 30, 2013 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that he has advanced plans to move forward in the redevelopment of the Island Park community that involves negotiating with the owners of The Long Beach Motor Inn and the adjoining Ruby Tuesdays property.For too long, this property has been a problem for the Island Park community. It also directly affects the reconstruction and redevelopment of this village.

County Executive Mangano has directed the County Attorney to proceed with plans to obtain the property and to negotiate an inter-municipal agreement with the Town of Hempstead for redevelopment at this site. Partnering with Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Senior Town Councilman Anthony Santino we can see to it that appropriate development such as Senior Citizen Housing replaces an unused eyesore.

County Executive Mangano stated, “We are committed to a plan that will redevelop these properties. While we are still recovering from the damage of Hurricane Sandy, both structures which have become a blight on the Island Park community. Residents had issues with this area long before the storm hit Nassau County. In the past, many Island Park residents have participated in protests to close the Long Beach Motor Inn and this is our commitment to residents of Nassau County by working with the property owners, the Town of Hempstead and surrounding areas as we move forward with our recovery efforts for a positive outcome.”
