Patchogue, NY - October 27, 2016 - This morning, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center (BMHMC) marked the completion of the construction of the new 60,000 square foot, $60 million Knapp Cardiac Care Center (KCCC) at the Hospital’s Patchogue, NY campus.

BMHMC representatives were joined by members of the Knapp Family, grateful patients, community leaders, and elected officials, including Congressman Lee Zeldin, New York State Senator Tom Croci, Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward Romaine, Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy and many others.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting marks the official launch of the new, state-of- the-art facilities that will provide Suffolk County Long Islanders with advanced interventional cardiac care capabilities. It includes: catheterization suite, electrophysiology lab, non-invasive cardiology suite, and HD video integrated surgical suites.

“The Knapp Cardiac Care Center will allow more than 25 cardiologists and teams of talented and caring nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical technologists to provide Long Islanders with a more heartfelt approach to cardiac care,” stated BMHMC President & CEO Richard T. Margulis. “The dream is now a reality thanks to the generosity of the Knapp Swezey Foundation, our Board of Directors, civic groups and organizations, our employees and many, many individuals coming together to make a real difference in the community.”

In her remarks, Lisa Rose, Chair of the BMHMC Board of Directors noted, “We undertook this capital campaign to expand cardiac care capabilities for the over 380,000 Long Islanders we serve. The response has been uplifting and on behalf of everyone at Brookhaven, I wish to express our heartfelt thanks.”

The Knapp Family undertook support of the expansion early on with a transformational gift that led to BMHMC’s ability to commence a capital campaign.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Priscilla Knapp-Teich said: “It has been exciting to watch the progress of this construction from the groundbreaking in 2014 to today’s official launch.

We are proud to be able to help make a lasting impact on our community.”

The day’s program included the VFW Post 8300 Color Guard, the Suffolk County Police Emerald Society Pipe Band, the singing of the national anthem by Patchogue H.S. student Christian Guardino, a patient story and tours of the KCCC.

Attending officials and community leaders included: Congressman Lee Zeldin, New York State Senator Tom Croci, Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward Romaine, Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy, Legislator Kate Browning, Legislator Rob Calarco, Mayor Ray Fell, Councilman Neil Foley, Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino, Legislator Leslie Kennedy, Councilman Michael LoGuercio, Assemblyman Dean Murray, Councilman Dan Panico, Mayor Paul Pontieri, Councilman Dan Panico and Debbie Tinnirello representing United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Congressman Zeldin stated: “Suffolk County residents deserve access to life-saving cardiac care services. I am happy to see Mr. Margulis advancing Brookhaven Memorial Hospital to make this happen for all.”

The KCCC’s advanced interventional cardiac care technology enables cardiologists to visualize and assess necessary information for treating blockages with medication, balloon
angioplasty, or stent placement. This expert emergency care is critical to saving the lives of
patients who may be experiencing a heart attack or stroke. For more information, visit www.brookhavenhospital.org/Knapp.
